Meiji era (1868-1912) large Awata Satsuma vase (13 1/4"x6 1/2") with panels shaped as scrolls and a gourd depicting garden scenes. Marked "Toritei zo". Very few pieces by this artist are known to remain today and even fewer of such impressive size and decoration. Note chip to base.
